Axum Historical Site

Axum historical and archaeological sites were world heritage designated in 1980. 

AxumThe city is located in central Tigray (Tigray Region) Rightly famous for its obelisks, Axum was the capital of the Axumite kingdom – once one of the four kingdoms of the world. It was also home to the Queen of Sheba whose ruined palace and bathing pool can still be found in and near the town.

Obelisk of Axum is a 1,700-year-old, 24-metre-tall (79-foot) granite stele/obelisk weighing 160 tons in the city of Axum in Ethiopia. It is ornamented with two false doors at the base and features decorations resembling windows on all sides. The obelisk ends in a semi-circular top part, which used to be enclosed by metal frames.
