Bale Mountains National Park is the largest area of Afro-Alpine habitat in Africa. It gives the visitor opportunities for incomparable mountain walking, horse trekking, scenic driving and the chances to view many of Ethiopia's endemic mammals, and birds, in particular the Mountain Nyala, Ethiopian Wolf, and Thick-billed Raven, Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged Goose, and Rouget's Rail

Day 1 - Arrival at Bole international airport. meet with ATOE representative, transfer to hotel.
Visit 3000m Entoto mountain with panoramic views over the capital the National and Ethnographic museum, St George, Trinity cathedral and Merkato which is the biggest open air market in Africa. Overnight, stay in the hotel

Day 2 - Addis - Dinsho. Departing Addis it is a 7 hour drive to Dinsho south along the Rift Valley floor to Shashamane then east up into the highlands to Dinsho where the National Park Headquarters are located. Overnight in Dinsho Lodge or camping.

Day 3 - Dinsho-Mararo. Meet guides and horsemen (camping equipment and food will be arranged by the National Park office in Dinsho). Commence the trek after breakfast. This first day follows through the Web and Wollo valley to the Finchaya Habera waterfall. Beyond the waterfall the passes through alpine grasslands to the Mararo campsite (3750m). Ethiopian wolves are often seen in this area.

Day 4 - Mararo-Worgona. The second days trek follows the Wasama valley walking beneath rugged peaks toward the Sanetti plateau on an altitude of 3,500 m. overnight, stay at Worgona campsite.

Day - 5 Worgona to Garba Guracha Lake. The trail on day three climbs onto the Sanetti plateau at 4000m and ascends Mount Batu the highest peak (4,400m). Giant lobelia and other fascinating high altitide plants are frequently seen. From Mount Batu the route crosses the plateau to the Garba Guracha lake. The lake is an old glacial valley and an excellent place to see birds of prey of which more than 40 species are found in the Park. Overnight Garba Guracha campsite.

Day 6 - Garba Guracha-Sanetti-Goba. Leaving the campsite the trail again crosses the Sanetti plateau finally reaching the Goba to Dolamena road where trekkers are picked up by vehicle and taken to Goba. Overnight, stay in hotel.

Day 7 - Goba-Hawassa. After an early breakfast drive to the lakeside city of Hawassa (Awassa) the capital of Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region. Lake Hawassa is a large and beautiful crater lake with exceptional birdlife. In the late afternoon take a walk along the lakeshore. It is possible to see up to 100 species of birds in a two hour walk. Overnight in hotel.

Day 8 - Hawassa-Addis Ababa. After a morning visit to the fish market beside the lake we drive back to Addis. The fish market is fascinating as marabou storks and pelicans walk freely among the people in their quest for fish scraps. in. Black and White Colobus monkeys (Gureza) can be spotted in nearby trees and close to the lakeshore. The drive to Addis passes through the Abiata Shala National Park where a stop can be made to visit the hot springs on the shore of Lake Shala.
Back in Addis, spend your last evening enjoying a traditional farewell dinner with Ethiopian cultural music and dancing. Either spend the night in Addis or the evening transfer to the airport for return flight.
